Fresh Christmas Wreaths – Saturday 9th December 2017

Great results from Saturday’s workshop where Pat showed her students how to make their own fresh Xmas table decorations and wreathes. Well done everyone, a total of eight home made fresh xmas wreathes and eight lovely table decorations were the result. Students re-used donated wire rings, their own garden foliage and decorated with existing xmas decorations and in doing so made energy efficiency savings as well as huge cost savings .

Christmas Jar Painting – 7th December 2017

What do you do with your empty glass jars? We re-use ours and along with the children from the p4 – p7 after school club at The Kyle of Sutherland Hub, we transformed these empty jars into great Xmas jars.
The children came up with some great ideas to show off their designs, some are to have LED lights inside, others are to be filled with cotton wool balls, some to be filled with tasty home made treats, and one lucky doggie is going to get his personalised jar full of treats for Xmas.
Before putting your jars to landfill or recycling think about how you can reuse them, or alternatively donate them to Lairg Learning Centre.

Photos from Rachael’s Christmas Cards class

Rachael’s xmas crafts students have been busy creating xmas cards and prints ready for xmas. They have printed their designs onto reused paper and plan to reuse old picture frames for framing. We think they are fabulous, Don’t you agree? Well done everyone! Next week they are glass painting to make some great xmas jars and/or table decorations and reusing empty glass jars. Watch this space!

Healthy Cooking Demonstration

Healthy cooking from fresh ingredients was the theme at our cookery demonstration and taster event on Thursday at Lairg Nursery. Mums, grannies and the nursery children came along and tried their hand at making their own flatbread, and learned how to make their own garlic butter and a great quick healthy noodle dish. Thanks to Sanaa our tutor and to everyone who came along. The adults went home with a recipe book with some ideas for healthy cooking from fresh ingredients and the children took home the climate change activity book kindly supplied by Sarah from East Sutherland Energy Advice Service.
